… because it’s just polite. I’m Caroline, an always-broke, somewhat ‘curvy’ (yes, that’s the polite term for overweight), self-confessed shopaholic who loves nothing more than searching out a bargain. I’m also a wannabe writer, finally deciding to just get on with it and write – hence my shiny new blog!
Fascinated as I am by clothes, fashion and all things environmentally friendly, I have decided to write about the lot. The blog is called second hand shopper as that’s what I am – no dressing it up as ‘vintage chic’ there is nothing I love more than charity shopping, browsing car boot sales and perusing market stalls in search of that elusive bargain. The beauty of which is not only its low price tag, but also its ethically pleasing label as ‘recycled’ goods. Recycled goods which have often enabled you to give some of your hard earned pennies (and it often is pennies, afterall) to charity. What could be better for your emotional health than that?
The other reason I have for starting this blog is to unashamedly promote my ebay store, Gilded Follies in which I sell the fabulous items that I find (or ’source’, as the vintage police would have it) and which will not fit or flatter my fabulous frame. You see, I love to shop, I love to read fashion magazines and surf fashion blogs, then I love to go out and find pieces that would create the perfect on-trend, seasonal look for next to nothing. Finding the gems in amongst the usual charity shop tat is one of my talents, if you will. But all too often the clothes are simply not cut to fit my modern shape and size. For example, a couple of weeks back while browsing for bargains I saw a red tailored shoulder poking out from the “£1 or less” sale rail (I can never quite believe charity shops have sale rails!). On closer inspection I realised that this hunting red, fitted jacket was authentic Biba (1990s relaunch Biba, but still genuine), in perfect condition and only 75p. Perfect for autumn/winter’s equestrian look and a size 8. My ebay shop allows me to share my finds with the wider world – and to pass on the savings.
So, now you know what to expect. I’ll be starting immediately, listing some of my recent finds (and current listings) and tracking the low, low prices. Please let me know what you think and offer any tips or stories of bargain buys you have yourselves – all are welcome!
