Do you ever notice little things that make you wonder whether you’re still “in Kansas” or have been accidentally swept away into another world? This lamp post just doesn’t fit into the Leamington Spa regency landscape!
Likewise, in the middle of the industrial estate where I work yesterday I snapped these beauties – a flash of vibrance amongst the scrubland.
Ah, I hadn’t the picture of dereliction from your comment of “industrial estate”. The poppies are still growing well enough near my office (scrubland around/behind Shires Retail Park/BPS). Also, scrubland is exactly the place I’d expect to see poppies, but perhaps you’re thinking more of the poppy fields of Afghanistan
As for art deco, I’m afraid my knowledge of art periods and the difference between Edwardian/Georgian/Victorian architecture is very slight, but I just didn’t think it stood out as much as you seemed to. Where is it and perhaps I’ll go take a look for myself?

I’m just wondering. What makes you think the lamppost doesn’t fit in in Leamington Spa? Perhaps a little more Victorian than Regency, but not unusual to see an old lamppost in an old town surely? And what’s unusual about poppies?
