Home to the Throckmortons for the past 600 years. Still home to them now! Which is what makes it so very personal – to be allowed to sit in their arm chairs, nosy in their drinks cabinets (Lady Throockmorton appears to favour Bombay Sapphire with Fever Tree tonic) and note the glasses with a ring of port or slice of lemon still lurking in their base….
The grounds are beautiful, and undergoing a makeover at present thanks to Lady T and her daughter.
Oh and there were sheep! Sleepy sheep!
There’s also a plant shop, a National Trust shop and tea rooms, and a secondhand book shop, where I picked up a couple of 1940s hardbacks with fabulous dust jackets for 10p each! We’ll be coming back – us both being National Trust members it’d be silly not to…
