Remember the other day I mentioned the wonderful blog What Would Emma Pillsbury Wear? Well, last week, to tie in with the launch of Glee! on UK television, Danielle designed a Union Jack influenced outfit themed around the good ol’ red, white and blue. The outfit, seen below (I hope she doesn’t mind!), included a fabulous skirt from Debenhams, which was going for a measly £15 in the sale…
I figured it wouldn’t hurt to swing by the Debenhams website, just to check whether they had it in my size… and 15 mins later I was scrabbling about my handbag looking for my debit card. Yup, I bought it. It arrived yesterday (reception called to say my dry cleaning had arrived – which was very confusing as I don’t do dry cleaning!) and I spent last night putting together my own, curvy-girl version of the outfit.
Now, I’m not gonna lie, I’m a little bit self-conscious in it. Just because I am draggin’ a frankly enormous wagon, and unlike most of my A-line or full- numbers, the pencil skirt does nothing to disguise it. But I made a promise to myself that I would stop cursing my curves in favour of embracing them this year, so I spent the day concentrating on standing up straight, pulling my tummy in and trying to look as unselfconscious as possible. I think it worked…
Details:
I also replaced sandals with boots for the commute – it may not be -11 anymore but it’s still ruddy cold out!
Oh, and you may remember me mentioning that Jayma Mays reminds me of Amber in my last EP post… well, the stripy top is a little nod to that fact – as I don’t think I’ve ever seen Emma wear stripes, but as we all know, Amber has a wardrobe full! 😀
You look fantastic. xx
Thanks hon xx
I LOVE the pencil skirt on you! And at the risk of being a bad influence, there is a massive closing down sale at http://www.frockonline.com and they have some really cute shoes for £10 and some nice skirts too. Oooh, also, I have that red bracelet as well!
I had a look and I LOVE a lot of the stuff on that website… thankfully, none of it – not one thing that I like – is in my size. It looks like it might be one of those boutique-y types that doesn’t go up to a 16. 😦 Sadly there are quite a few.
I have the matching necklace to the bracelet – was a leaving gift from on old job at HERO.ac.uk. We call them “the hero jewels”! I love ’em.
You look GORGEOUS. The skirt looks absolutely fabulous on you and I love the whole ensemble! Nothing to be self-conscious about – you look stunning!
Thanks lady – it’s all your doing!
Love the skirt and the whole look is fantastic.xxx
PS Wonder if they have it in my size?!
Thanks Mummy – I know you checked, and that the answer is no, but I’m sure we can find you a cute pencil skirt somewhere else! xxx
That skirt is gorgeous! This is definitely a good look for you, love it! Your red Topshop shoes would work well with this combo too, when it’s not snowing.
Sadly, the Topshop shoes are too orangey red for the cardi – but they will go with other outfits built around this skirt, I’m sure!
I adore that outfit, and think you positively stunning, dahling! Honestly, I saw that outfit and my jaw dropped, so don’t you go feeling insecure! xx
Awww, thank you hon. xx
The skirt looks wonderful on you! I like your resolution.
Thanks Kasmira! It’s a good resolution – a bit more difficult to follow through on than my usual – can’t always control my insecurities!!
wiggle the wagon!!!!
where I’m from people feel sorry for you if you don’t seem to have enough to sit on.
Well, they def wouldn’t feel sorry for me GC!
On a good day I wiggle, on a bad day I walk with my back to the wall…
Haha, how well you know me – as soon as I laid eyes on this outfit, I started coveting it: I mean, stripes AND a skirt with a bow – what more could I ask for?! I also think the skirt looks fantastic on you, by the way 🙂
Thanks! Though I’m sure you culd manage the stripes bit fine… 😀
You look fab!
Thank you lady!
